Navoi Region – was founded in 1982
Area – 110,9 thousand km2
The administrative center is the city of Navoi (509 km from Tashkent).
Region is located in the central part of the Republic. From the South the region is bordered by the Zeravshan River, the Nurata mountain ranges stretch from the East, and the Kyzylkum plateau stretches from the northwest of the region.
The climate is desert, sharply continental.
Priority directions in agriculture are cotton growing, karakul breeding, various cereals, cocoon production, horticulture, vegetable growing, viticulture, melon growing.
Widely developed diversified livestock. The region is on the second place in Uzbekistan (after the Bukhara region) for the production of astrakhan smells.
The subsoil is rich in deposits of gold, tungsten, limestone and cement raw materials, phosphorites, quartz sand.
The leading industries are: mining metallurgy, gold mining, energy, building materials, cotton cleaning, food.
There are branches of Tashkent Technical University and Tashkent State Pedagogical University in the region.
The administrative center – the city of Navoi – is the youngest in the Zeravshan valley. The newest methods of housing construction in conditions of a hot climate of the desert (sun protection, through ventilation, etc.) were first developed and applied here in the construction of the city. The city is buried in the greenery of squares and parks, many beautiful fountains. Well-planned infrastructure of residential areas. For recreational purposes, an artificial lake has been created here.
Two more new towns, Uchkuduk and Zarafshan, were built in the center of the Kyzyl-Kum desert – there are deposits of non-ferrous metals.
